How to get from Cervinia to Zermatt

By cable car: the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing

Since 2023 Breuil-Cervinia and Zermatt are linked by a pedestrian cable-car connection open all year: Cervinia, Plan Maison, Cime Bianche, Testa Grigia (3,458 m), Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (3,883 m) and down to Zermatt. About 30 minutes of lifts to Testa Grigia and an hour and a half in all. 2026/27 prices from Zermatt Bergbahnen: one way CHF 147.50 (September-October 2026), CHF 127.50 from November; return CHF 240 / 208; children up to 8 free. Closed for maintenance from 7 January to 26 February 2027. Bring an ID: it is a border.

On skis: 360 km of slopes

With the international Cervino Ski Paradise ski pass you ski on both sides: 155 km in Italy and 360 km with Zermatt, from 24 October 2026 to 2 May 2027. The same-day return to Cervinia depends on the last lift from Zermatt (around 15:45): ask at the ticket office in the morning.

By car: no, you get as far as Täsch

Zermatt is car-free. From Cervinia by car it is about 200 km via Aosta, the Great St Bernard tunnel and Visp to Täsch, where you leave the car and take the shuttle train (12 minutes). The Great St Bernard tunnel costs 33.50 euro each way and Swiss motorways need the vignette (CHF 40). We work in Italy only: we take you to Cervinia from the airports of Turin and Milan and from there the link is by cable car.

Where to stay

For those who want to see the Matterhorn from both sides, Cervinia is the cheaper base: lower hotel and ski pass prices, the cable car a few steps away and our base half an hour away. From Turin Caselle it is a 1h40 transfer, from Malpensa 2h20.
